Monaco works as a charter base because everything worth reaching is within a comfortable day: Villefranche and Cap Ferrat immediately east and west, the Îles de Lérins off Cannes about two hours away, Saint-Tropez three to four, and Portofino three hours in the other direction.
Two weeks operate under different rules. The Grand Prix in late May turns harbour berths into grandstand seats and prices them accordingly, and the Monaco Yacht Show in late September fills Port Hercule with the brokerage fleet. Plan around both unless you specifically want them.
September is the connoisseur's month. The sea is still holding its summer temperature, the light is better than in August, and rates soften as soon as the Yacht Show finishes.

- Indicative starting rates run from around €34,000 per week for a 22-metre sports yacht to €78,000 and upward for a 27-metre. Add roughly 30% APA, plus VAT and gratuity.
- Do I need to be berthed in Monaco itself?
- No, and most charters are not. Port Hercule berths are scarce in season; Villefranche, Beaulieu and Cap d'Ail are all a short transfer away and often nicer anchorages.
