Chartering from Miami
Miami splits into two quite different products. Day charters are the volume business — out through Government Cut, anchor off Key Biscayne, toys in the water by midday, back for dinner. Week-long charters head south through Biscayne Bay and the upper Keys, or east across the Gulf Stream to Bimini and the Berry Islands.
The Bahamas crossing needs a weather window. It is roughly 50 nautical miles from Miami to Bimini, straightforward in settled conditions and unpleasant when the wind opposes the Gulf Stream. Any competent captain will move the schedule rather than force it, and you should let them.
The season runs November to May. Summer brings heat, afternoon thunderstorms and hurricane risk from August.
